Edgemont, South Dakota

Located on the southern edge of the Black Hills, Edgemont is a true escape from the busy ways of modern life. The area is an outdoorsman’s paradise, with opportunities for hunting, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, and fishing, just to name a few! The Mickelson Trail is a hot spot for hikers and bicyclists, and the trailhead is located downtown in the Teddy Roosevelt Park. Breathtaking vistas are at every turn, from the red rocks of Red Canyon to the lush greenery of Craven Canyon to the gently flowing waters of the Cheyenne River. See these on foot, or horseback as you partake in one of Sunrise Guest Ranch’s cattle drives.

The downtown doesn’t have any stoplights, but that only adds to its charm. Visit the Teddy Roosevelt Park, so named for the much loved president who once spoke from its gazebo, and stroll across the only covered bridge in the northern plains. Shop for fabrics, guns and sporting goods, antiques, flowers, and gifts at our charming shops, and stop in at the Victory Steakhouse & Lounge for a mouthwatering steak. No matter what you choose, you’re sure to meet friendly folks at every turn.

Edgemont has plenty to offer in the way of entertainment. For four weekends each summer, the Edgemont Community Theatre puts on vaudeville style melodramas for a packed house at the old sale barn turned theatre. The Fall River County Fairgrounds plays host to several rodeos each summer, as well as to the annual First weekend in August Fall River County Fair. The annual Redneck Rally has crowds roaring as mud trucks scream down the mud drag tracks and ATVs race around the obstacle course. Last Saturday in September at the City Park the Fall Festival hosts local vendors selling their wares and the Car Show lines the streets with antique cars.
